Trivia Questionā“

Before it was called Billings, what was the original name planned for the town?

Answer at the bottom of the newsletter

Hello Billings...

How ’bout that USA hockey team? Team USA athletes have been giving us plenty to cheer about lately — always fun to see that red, white, and blue shining bright.

And while much of the East is getting hammered with winter weather, we’ve managed to dodge a bullet here at home. Not a bad stretch for February in Montana!

Let’s take advantage of it — get outside, support a local event, grab coffee with a friend, and soak up this good weather while we’ve got it. As always, there’s plenty happening around town — let’s make it a great week, Billings.

Billings residents looking for a getaway in Mexico are facing major disruptions as cartel violence surges in Puerto Vallarta and across Jalisco.

Turmoil erupted after the Mexican military killed "El Mencho," head of the powerful Jalisco New Generation Cartel.

In retaliation, cartel members set vehicles ablaze and blocked highways throughout several states, creating widespread uncertainty and travel chaos.

The U.S. Embassy has urged Americans in affected areas like Puerto Vallarta to shelter in place and remain cautious, while airlines including Delta and United have temporarily suspended flights to popular tourist hotspots.

Local travelers are encouraged to monitor official advisories, maintain communication with family, and consider securing travel insurance to manage unexpected changes.

As Mexican authorities work to restore normalcy, staying alert and prioritizing personal safety is essential for anyone traveling in the region.

šŸž Good Bugs, Bad Bugs & Tick Season Ahead

Not all bugs are bad! Bees, ladybugs, and praying mantises help pollinate plants and keep pests under control — great news for local yards and gardens.

But with our dry, mild winter, ticks could be more active than usual this year. Fewer deep freezes mean more survive into spring. As you’re out enjoying the sunshine, wear long pants on trails, check kids and pets, and stay tick-aware.

A little caution goes a long way — enjoy the outdoors, Billings!

Here’s to another great week in Billings — cheering on Team USA, soaking up the sunshine, and making the most of everything happening in our community. Get out there, support local, and enjoy it while it lasts!

Until Next Time, Billings 🤠

That’ll do it for this week, friends. Stay safe, soak up the sunshine, and we’ll see you around town. Same place, same time next week!
šŸ’” Answer to Trivia Question:

Coulson.

Coulson was a small settlement located near the Yellowstone River before the railroad chose a new site for Billings in 1882. When the Northern Pacific Railway came through, Billings boomed — and Coulson eventually faded into history.
