Kids story programs and activities in Billings parks

Including free kids lunch and access to free kids books

This summer, Billings is offering a variety of engaging programs for children, combining fun activities with educational opportunities. The Billings Parks and Recreation Department has expanded its Rec2U program, providing free recreation for kids of all ages. Activities include yard games, sports, arts, and crafts, running Monday through Friday from June 1 to August 14, with a break on July 3. Locations vary daily, covering areas such as the Heights, South Side, Midtown, West End, and Pioneer Park. The goal is to offer youth more opportunities for activities, promote health, and foster community connections in a positive and safe environment. In addition to recreational activities, the Billings Public Library is hosting the Freadom Book Club in partnership with the Brooklyn Public Library. This initiative celebrates every teen's right to read, featuring a curated selection of young adult books. Open to youth aged 12-18, the program includes monthly discussions, free food, and guest speakers tailored to each book's theme. Participants can register to borrow free copies of the books and join discussions on the last Saturday of each month. For younger children, the library offers Adventures in Story Time, introducing preschoolers to books, rhymes, crafts, and interactive activities. These sessions aim to build foundational reading skills such as listening, letter awareness, and predicting. The program runs every Tuesday and Thursday from January 13 to April 30. To support literacy and provide nourishment, the library is also offering Lunch at the Library in collaboration with Billings Public Schools. From June 10 to August 5, free summer lunches are available for children and teens 18 and under on Wednesdays and Fridays. Meals include hot and cold entrees, fresh fruits and vegetables, and milk. Adults can purchase a meal for $5.75. ([billings.librarycalendar.com](https://billings.librarycalendar.com/index.php/event/lunch-library-33175?utm_source=openai))

These programs reflect Billings' commitment to fostering a love for reading and learning among its youth, while also ensuring access to nutritious meals during the summer months. Families are encouraged to take advantage of these free opportunities to engage their children in educational and recreational activities throughout the city.
