Discover Splash Pads in Billings MT for Family-Friendly Fun

Enjoy free splash pads and public splash pads across the city

Memorial Day 2026 in Billings brought a scorching sun, turning steering wheels into branding irons and sidewalks into griddles. By early afternoon, many residents sought relief in the water.

Lake Elmo State Park, a popular destination, was overwhelmed with visitors. The parking lot was full, the beach crowded, and paddleboarders navigated a congested reservoir. While Lake Elmo is a cherished spot, its popularity can lead to overcrowding on hot days.

Fortunately, Billings offers five free splash pads across the city, providing accessible and less crowded alternatives for cooling off.

South Park, located on Sixth Avenue South, boasts the city's largest and newest splash pad. It features 55 programmable underground jets divided into age-appropriate zones. Children can activate the jets with the push of a button, creating an interactive water experience. The 16-acre park also includes ball fields, basketball courts, and ample shade trees, making it ideal for a full afternoon outing. The splash pad operates daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Note: while the splash pad is free, there is a fee for swimming in the pool.

North Park, situated on Sixth Avenue North, offers a splash pad equipped with water cannons adjacent to a well-maintained playground. This setup allows children to choose between getting soaked or enjoying the playground equipment. The park is open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Terry Park, located on Fifth Street West, is the smallest of the five splash pads but offers a unique feature: it's adjacent to a fire station. This proximity can be particularly exciting for young children. The compact splash pad includes numerous sprayers, and a new playground is situated nearby. It operates daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Highland Park, found on Second Avenue South, is often overlooked, making it a quieter option. Although smaller than South Park, its less crowded environment is appealing on busy days. The splash pad is open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Castle Rock Park, located on Nottingham Circle in the Heights, spans 25 acres and includes a splash pad, picnic areas, and a playground. Its spaciousness ensures it rarely feels overcrowded. The splash pad operates daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

With summer in Billings being brief, these free splash pads offer excellent opportunities to stay cool and enjoy family-friendly fun. All you need is a towel and some sunscreen to make the most of these community resources.
