Memorial plaque and COVID 19 memorial in City of Billings |
Honoring COVID 19 victims and highlighting the significance of a memorial plaque |
The City of Billings is set to dedicate a memorial plaque honoring those who lost their lives to COVID-19 and the healthcare workers who served during the pandemic.
Between 2020 and 2023, more than 52,000 residents of Yellowstone County were infected with the virus, resulting in over 610 deaths.
Healthcare workers faced immense challenges, often at great personal cost, as they battled the disease.
The dedication ceremony is scheduled for April 17, from noon to 1:00 p.m., at City Hall, located at 316 North 26th Street.
Former Mayor Bill Cole will deliver remarks during the event.
Attendees will have the opportunity to speak, followed by a moment of silence and the unveiling of the plaque.
This ceremony coincides with the sixth anniversary of the first COVID-19 death in Yellowstone County, a date that holds significant meaning for the community.
In addition to the plaque, the city has previously honored pandemic victims through initiatives like the Pandemic Memorial Pathway along the Billings Rims, where markers were placed to represent each life lost.
These efforts underscore the community's commitment to remembering those affected by the pandemic and the resilience demonstrated during challenging times. |
