Downtown Streets Flip the Script in Two-Way Transformation

Heads up, downtown drivers: Things are about to get twice as exciting (and possibly twice as confusing) as several one-way streets in Billings start their transformation into two-way roads starting the week of July 28.

It’s all part of the Downtown Billings Two-Way Restoration Project, which will take about a week to roll out—street by street. Crews will be out striping lanes, flipping signs, and activating shiny new traffic signals like they’re redecorating downtown’s roadways with a fresh, dual-direction flair.

🚧 Here’s what you need to know:

  • Starting 7/28, interim two-way pavement markings will start appearing—watch for the makeover in progress!

  • Signs, stripes, and signals will tell you where things have officially switched—so keep those eyes peeled and don’t assume anything.

  • Be kind to our hardworking crews (and your alignment)—watch for workers and expect a few minor delays and some temporarily MIA parking spots.

  • The final glow-up with long-lasting epoxy markings is set for mid to late August.

🚦 Still staying solo:
Montana Ave, 1st Ave N, 4th Ave N, and 6th Ave N are not part of the two-way trend—they’re keeping it classic and sticking to their one-way roots.

👀 Pro tip: If you’re walking or biking downtown, take a moment to look both ways now—those surprise cars coming from the "new direction" are part of the fun.

As always, all of this is weather permitting—because, well, Montana.

So buckle up, Billings—downtown’s getting a new groove!
