🥧 November: Where Sweaters Are Snug and Slices Are Generous |
Welcome to the glorious season of elastic waistbands, socially acceptable seconds (and thirds), and the unofficial sport of pie sampling. November is that magical month where we pretend calories don’t exist and food is a love language. To celebrate, here are a few thoughts that truly capture the mood:

The Secret to Feeling Better Might Be Right Under Your Nose |
Here’s the thing—most people are breathing like they’re trying not to get caught. Quick, shallow chest breaths while racing through the day. It’s no wonder we feel tense, tired, and two sips away from snapping at a printer jam.
Let’s fix that.
Start with noticingRight now—don’t change anything—just notice how you’re breathing. Chances are, your shoulders are doing all the work and your stomach’s still. Real breathing starts down low, where your diaphragm lives. When you inhale, your belly should rise; when you exhale, it should fall. That’s a sign your lungs are actually earning their keep. Go slow on purposeTry this simple rhythm: in through your nose for four seconds, out through your mouth for six. That longer exhale tells your nervous system to calm the heck down. You’ll literally feel your shoulders drop. Nose over mouthYour nose is like a built-in air filter and humidifier. Mouth breathing dries you out and keeps your body stuck in stress mode. If you’re a nighttime mouth-breather, maybe skip the duct tape trend and just practice nose breathing during the day—it gets easier fast. Fix your slouchYou can’t breathe well if you’re folded like a lawn chair. Sit tall, roll your shoulders back, lift your chest a little. You’ll look confident and give your lungs the room they deserve. Try the reset breathFeeling flustered? Inhale sharply through your nose, take one more small sip of air, then exhale slowly through your mouth. Two or three of those, and you’ll feel like you just rebooted your brain. Make it a habitBreathe deeply before you check email, while you wait at a red light, or right before you drift off to sleep. Think of it as a mini vacation you can take anytime—no TSA line required.
The truth is, better breathing won’t just calm you down—it’ll sharpen your mind, boost your energy, and make you feel more at home in your own skin. Not bad for something free and always available. Local Tip: Next time you’re walking the Rimrocks or waiting at the light on Grand, take a slow breath in, feel your shoulders drop, and remember—you’re living in big-sky country. There’s plenty of room to breathe. |
