Billings father secures approval for daughter's memorial in Swords Park.
After a year-long effort, a Billings father has received formal approval to establish a permanent memorial for his daughter in Swords Park.
Savanah Robinson tragically lost her life in a motorcycle crash on May 26, 2025.
Her father, Lem Robinson, has been dedicated to creating a lasting tribute ever since.
Initially, Robinson erected a memorial near the crash site on Highway 3, west of the Billings airport.
However, due to regulations concerning city and state-owned land, he was asked to remove it.
Undeterred, Robinson sought a more permanent solution.
The opportunity arose when the city introduced a public art program aimed at showcasing local artists' work in public spaces.
Robinson was the first to apply under this initiative.
After navigating the application process, which involved detailed proposals and patience, Robinson received approval.
He chose Swords Park for the memorial due to its personal significance.
The park offers a serene setting overlooking the city, a place Savanah cherished.
The memorial will feature a bench and an angel sculpture positioned on the edge of the rims.
Construction is underway, with completion expected around Labor Day.
This public art memorial serves not only as a tribute to Savanah but also as a poignant reminder of the dangers of impaired driving and the importance of motorcycle safety.
Through his perseverance, Robinson hopes the memorial will honor his daughter's memory and raise awareness within the community. |
