Women's fitness group in Girl, Get After It returns to Billings |
Connecting through women's social group and female friendship community |
Billings, Mont. — A dynamic women's fitness group is making a triumphant return to the city, aiming to foster connections and promote active lifestyles among local women.
Established in 2017 in Bozeman, this initiative has expanded nationwide, with chapters in over 20 cities, including Bozeman, Missoula, and the Flathead Valley. The Billings chapter is re-emerging after a hiatus during the pandemic, bringing renewed energy to the community.
Founder Cassidy Van Orden shared her motivation for starting the group: "I began this journey in 2017 in Bozeman, Montana, driven by a personal desire to meet other women and navigate the challenges of making new friends as an adult. When I couldn't find an existing platform, I decided to create one."
The Billings chapter is dedicated to uniting women of various ages, interests, and fitness levels through activities such as hikes, workouts, book exchanges, and community events. The primary focus is on building meaningful connections beyond the activities themselves.
Van Orden highlighted the diversity within the group: "Our community includes women aged 18 to over 65, with most members in their thirties. If you're open to trying new things, meeting new people, and stepping out of your comfort zone, you are welcome here."
Leading the Billings chapter are Megan Gibson and Megan Franken, affectionately known as "Megan Squared." Both were members in other cities before spearheading the local group.
Gibson emphasized the inclusivity of the group: "There's no specific type of woman who fits a certain personality. Whether you're into outdoor adventures, different workouts, crafts, or exploring new businesses, this community is truly for all women. It's about learning and growing together."
Upcoming events include hikes, mountain biking, brewery meetups, craft nights, and book exchanges. The chapter has also introduced local gear to foster a sense of community identity.
Franken encouraged hesitant women to attend an event: "If you're on the fence, just come to an event. It's low-key and provides an opportunity to get to know each other, learn, and share experiences."
Gibson added: "Building friendships can be challenging nowadays. This effort is about creating lifelong connections so you have someone to try new things with."
Van Orden reflected on the impact of the group: "I've seen many women develop a sense of self-confidence they might not have achieved otherwise. For instance, one woman joined our trail running retreats as a novice and, six months later, completed her first 50K run."
