Trivia Question❓

Where were the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights stored during World War II?

Answer at the bottom of the newsletter

This Fourth of July isn't just another Independence Day—it's America's 250th birthday, a milestone known as the Semiquincentennial.

Two and a half centuries ago, a group of ordinary people signed an extraordinary document, declaring that a new nation would be built on the bold idea that all people are created equal and deserve the chance to pursue life, liberty, and happiness.

Since 1776, America has weathered wars, economic hardship, remarkable innovation, and moments that have challenged us to become a more perfect union. Through it all, the nation's story has been written not only by famous leaders, but by millions of everyday citizens—farmers, teachers, miners, entrepreneurs, veterans, volunteers, and neighbors—whose hard work and determination have shaped the communities we call home.

As we celebrate 250 years of American independence, it's a chance to reflect on where we've been, appreciate the freedoms we enjoy today, and look ahead with hope for the generations still to come. Whether you're watching fireworks, gathering with family, exploring Montana's great outdoors, or simply enjoying a summer evening with friends, here's wishing you a safe, joyful, and memorable Independence Day.

Happy 250th Birthday, America!

150 Years Later, Little Bighorn Still Brings People Together

Thousands of people gathered this week at the Little Bighorn Battlefield near Crow Agency to mark the 150th anniversary of one of the most significant events in American history.

The commemoration featured horseback riders from Sioux, Northern Cheyenne, Arapaho and other Native nations retracing the route of their ancestors across the battlefield, along with educational programs, cultural presentations, music, and storytelling. The event drew visitors from across the country to reflect on both the Battle of the Little Bighorn and its lasting impact.

One of the most powerful themes of the gathering was resilience and reconciliation. Tribal elders and descendants shared personal stories passed down through generations, honoring the courage of those who fought while emphasizing healing, education, and preserving Native history for future generations.

The anniversary wasn't just about looking back. It was a reminder that Montana's history is still alive today, and that understanding the past helps shape a better future.

Buzz Worth Knowing: If you've never visited the Little Bighorn Battlefield, this anniversary is a good reminder that one of America's most important historic sites is just a couple of hours from Billings and well worth the trip.

BTW...did you know the Billings Library has in its archives a dozen signed and dated letters from Elizabeth Custer, Lt. Col. George Custer's widow.

🎶 Live Music Lights Up the Holiday Week

If your idea of a perfect summer evening includes live music under the Montana sky, you're in luck—this week is packed with concerts all across Billings.

Downtown Summer Sounds kicks things off on Tuesday with country favorite Charley Crockett taking the stage at the Billings Skate Park. The music continues Wednesday as The Brothers Osborne bring their blend of modern country and rock to downtown.

On Thursday, head over to Alive After 5 outside the Rainbow Bar, where Crazy Fool and the Magic City Dub All-Stars will keep the party going with an energetic mix of rock, funk, reggae, and soul. Local music fans will also recognize standout musician Adam Rutt, who'll be behind the drum kit for the evening.

Whether you're a country fan or just looking for a fun night out with friends, there's no shortage of reasons to get outside and enjoy the music before the Fourth of July celebrations begin.

A treasured Little Free Library in a Billings neighborhood was damaged late Tuesday night, likely by a firework, but residents quickly rallied to support the popular book-sharing spot.

The small library, located at Alderson Avenue and Fifth Street West, suffered burn marks and lost several books to fire.
